This was consealing much of the detail and lustre of the gilding. The shellac was carefully removed and the carving cleaned. The upholstery was recovered. |
A Gainsborough ChairThe frame had been stripped of upholstery and shellac varnish. The frame was prepared and french polished in the traditional manner. The upholstery was replaced also using traditional materials and techniques. | A Burr Walnut Veneered Card TableA number of blisters in the veneer where repaired and marks removed from the top. | Gilt Mirror FrameThis frame had been over-painted with grey emulsion which was removed. There were some losses to the crest at the top which were replaced. The gesso layer was consolidated and then the whole frame gilded in the traditional manner. |

Cliveden Hotel's Five Legged ChairThe gilding was cleaned in preparation for recovering the upholstery. | Mahogany Nursing ChairTraditionally upholstered from the frame up. The seat rail had been tacked into during earlier upholstery work and was in a very poor condition. It was necessary to veneer the rails and knees to restore the original design intention. |
