The shellac coating over the gilding on the arm supports had darkened with age. This was consealing much of the detail and lustre of the gilding. The shellac was carefully removed and the carving cleaned. The upholstery was recovered.

This frame had been overpainted with grey emulsion which was removed. There were some losses to the crest at the top which were replaced. The gesso layer was consolidated and then the whole frame was gilded in the traditional manner.

Traditionally upholstered from the frame up. The seat rail had been tacked into during earlier upholstery work and was in a very poor condition. It was necessary to veneer the rails and knees to restore the original design intention.
