Upholstery Courses
at Lyons Traditional Upholstery
You can now learn traditional upholstery at our Wooburn Workshop. Lessons include how to upholster your own furniture using century old techniques and traditional materials.
For a group of four students courses normally run over 10 consecutive weeks for 2 hours one evening a week. The weekday can be negotiated with the group.
One-to-one teaching is entirely flexible and can be at any time of day to fit around your commitments.
Why not ask around your circle of friends or call us to see if there is a group place available. Groups can have a maximum of four students.
Prices for groups:
Group of students: £160.00 for 20 hours over 10 weeks per person
One-to-one is charged at 20.00/hour
Depending on your previous experience you should be able to complete (for example)
8 drop-on seats (complete upholstery and covering) or
up to 4 sprung dining room chairs (complete upholstery and covering) or
one armchair (re-covering only - if upholstery is intact)
If you already have some experience you should be able to do more than that.
Projects have to be supplied by the students. Unfortunately we have no storage space, so furniture will have to be taken home after ever lesson.
We have parking for 4 cars in front of the workshop.
Materials such as horsehair, hessian and calico are charged extra and costs will have to be settled at the end of the course.
We also have a selection of fabric books to choose a top fabric from alternatively you can bring your own fabric.
As groups are small you will get a lot of attention and should progress fast. Hand-outs are available and you will also learn form your fellow student’s projects.
Tools are supplied – but if you already have some tools please bring them along.
We can also put you together a toolkit (at trade prices if you are on the course). A complete kit comes to ca. £100.00. Or we can order you any tools you are missing.
Please see the price list for prices of tools.
Please wear warm clothing and bring an apron to protect your clothing.
