At LYONS UPHOLSTERY we specialize in the upholstery of period and antique furniture. We maintain the traditions and techniques of upholstery which evolved over the last four centuries. When restoring upholstered antique furniture we use tacks or staples – which ever is more appropriate. Horsehair and Coconut fibre (sometime straw, wool, cotton) is used instead of foam. Springs are sewn in by hand as they have been since their invention during Victorian times.

Our customers can be sure that we research every piece and revert to our extensive experience in order to give every piece the appropriate upholstery. Shapes and styles changed over time and vary according to country of origin. To re-upholster a piece of furniture according to its historical context will transform it and can increase/maintain its value.

We not only have extensive experience with English antiques but also with French and German furniture – these are always upholstered in traditionally French/German techniques and materials (which differ greatly from English methods)

We provide a wide range of upholstery services from re-covering to complete re-upholstery. Because we employ traditional methods which have stood the test of time we ensure your furniture will look great and provide you with many more years of joy.

Fabrics can be chosen from our extensive stock or from an alternative source. Whatever your choice, we will work closely with you to achieve the desired finish.

Estimates within 10 miles of our workshop are free and we offer a collection/delivery service. If you require Quotes/deliveries outside our catchment-area please call us to discuss your needs.

If you love antique furniture, you can learn how to upholster your own projects at LYONS. We offer courses in traditional upholstery for groups upto four or on a one-to-one basis. Prices start from £8.00/hour and times are flexible.
